About this policy
This policy covers the Knots website, browser player, and native apps. Knots is provided by the team behind Lumik. You can listen without creating a Knots or Lumik account. The Knots apps and browser player do not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
Your local library
The native apps keep your library, follows, saved episodes, playback history and progress, queue, settings, and downloads on your device. The browser player stores your library and preferences in this browser. If you sign in to the browser player, follows, saved episodes, queue, playback history, and progress sync with your Knots account.
Clearing the website’s browser data removes that browser’s library and preferences. Local browser data is specific to a browser profile and website domain; it does not automatically transfer when you switch devices, browsers, or domains.
Optional iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud Sync in the iOS app, Knots stores the library and listening data needed for sync in your private iCloud database, including follows, saved items, playback progress, queue entries, and per-show settings. We do not receive that private iCloud data on our servers. Apple operates iCloud under its privacy policy and iCloud terms. You can turn sync off in the app.
Feeds, search, and playback
Native apps request feeds, podcast directory results, artwork, and audio from their publishers and service providers. Those services may receive your IP address, device request information, and the content or search terms you request, and apply their own privacy policies.
On the website, search terms and requested feed URLs are sent to the Knots API, which fetches directory or feed data on your behalf. Importing OPML sends the file’s contents to that API to read the feed list. Public chart and feed responses may be cached to serve requests. The landing page uses the country supplied by our hosting provider to select regional podcast charts. Browser audio and artwork requests go to the publishers hosting those files.
A private feed URL can contain an access token. Treat it as a password and only import it if you are comfortable sending it to the services described above.
Purchases and licenses
Apple processes iOS in-app purchases. Knots uses Apple’s purchase and entitlement information to unlock Pro features and restore purchases; we do not receive your full payment card details.
Android Pro purchases use Stripe Checkout and the shared Lumik license service. These services process your purchase email, selected plan, transaction and subscription information, and license records to take payment, issue or recover your key, and manage billing. Activation and validation send your license key, app-generated device identifier, activation identifier, and device name when supplied to the license service. We use these records to verify access and enforce the license’s device limit. Knots does not receive your full payment card details. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
Website and service requests
Cloudflare hosts the website and API. Network requests include technical information such as IP addresses, request URLs, and browser headers. Hosting and service providers may process request and security records to deliver the service, diagnose failures, and prevent abuse. License endpoints use IP-based rate limits. Local storage is used for the browser library and preferences; checkout and billing providers may use cookies under their own policies.
Support and retention
If you email knots@lumik.space, we receive the information you choose to send and use it to respond and provide support. Support correspondence is retained as long as needed for that purpose or as required by law.
Local library data stays until you remove it or clear the app or browser data. Purchase, licensing, and related service records are retained as needed to provide access, handle billing or disputes, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information or use your listening library for advertising.
Your choices and requests
You can remove local data using the app’s controls or your device and browser settings, and disable optional iCloud sync. Turning off sync does not itself delete existing iCloud records. For access, correction, or deletion requests relating to support, purchase, or license data, contact knots@lumik.space. We may need to verify your request and retain records required by law. Your privacy rights depend on where you live.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when Knots or its data practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision. For privacy questions, contact knots@lumik.space.
